The Daleks never looked so good!

The Daleks add a blast of colour to the new BBC One HD trailer, as they appear alongside many other well known BBC celebrities.

Camouflaged Dalek

Camouflaged Dalek, Ralph C. (age 8), Sheffield

The Doctor is sad, because he knows there is a Dalek nearby, but he can't see it...

...because it is camouflaged.

I like the 'inceptionesque' take on perspective in this drawing from Ralph in Sheffield, with the Doctor appearing to be on a different plane of axis to the Dalek.

Stamp On A Dalek!

... or indeed, a Dalek on a stamp.

In 1999, a Dalek was featured in the Millenium series of stamps celebrating British popular culture, issued by the Royal Mail and photographed by Lord Snowdon.

Frank Sidebottom Dalek

"If a Dalek was in the kitchen eating some beans on toast, what would the main ingredients be?", just one of the many references made by Frank Sidebottom, who often showed his love of Daleks during his surreal comedy broadcasts.

Frank was played by comedian and musician, Chris Sievey, who sadly passed away at the end of last year after his battle with cancer.

In case you were wondering, the answer is bread and beans of course ;)

Daleks Through Time - WWII

Delving through the historical archives, we can now find photographic evidence of Daleks through history. One such example is this staggering image of a 'Special Weapons' Dalek, captured during World War II.

Dalek Cake of the Week

An earlier post featuring a Blue Peter made Dalek Cake, inspired this new regular feature.

This weeks cake comes from Flickr user vanillalatte_1 who, I think, has succeeded in making a Dalek even scarier.

Victory of the Daleks

I found this game really difficult to begin with, I thought I would be unlikely to see any of the additional levels pictured below. But my persistence payed off and I eventually completed the game.

You can play the game at www.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk

Dalek Domination

The Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester brought together 67 home-made Daleks in 2007 in an attempt to set the world record of the most Daleks in one place. The original Dalek designer, Raymond Cusick, was present to judge the entries.

The Nature of Daleks

Daleks, please leaf our Earth alone! (sorry).

7 year old Sam & Rory did an excellent job here, creating a Dalek from nature, in the Nature Detectives Club 'Big Leaf Art' project.

Nature Detectives is run by the Woodland Trust - creating, protecting and inspiring people about woods and trees (and now Daleks too!).

Run To The Hills...

...then leggit back again!

When a giant Dalek appeared in the Belfast Hills at the beginning of April 2009, it turned out to be a publicity stunt by Denis Rush of UT Events  advertising the Vortex Doctor Who Convention at a nearby hotel.

When interviewed by the BBC he said...
“I must have asked every single member of my family for any spare bed sheets they had... It was tough going as it must be a 50 degree slope, but it was definitely worth it.”

Now Defunct Dalek Sign

It's a real shame this has now gone.

The 'Dapol Dr Who Experience' opened in 1994 in Llangollen, Denbighshire, Wales, and contained  props and costumes used in the TV series. It closed in 2003 and the Dalek no longer appears on the sign.
